Imbalance...

So I have been diving headlong into the official forums in hopes to help the Mythic team out. As of late though instead of the bug reports and feedback section I have been more and more drawen the the Brewery forum. Sadly this is mostly do to all the complaining about server imbalance on a few servers. One of the being my new home of Iron Rock.

While I don’t mind seeing passion in some posts about the problem, it seems to be just ranting now. I have been on and I have seen Destro roll into Altdorf about 5 times since the xfer. Sure this is a bit insane and there is a massive imbalance, but even with an imbalance I am ashamed to let Destro roll in 5 times so quickly. We must hope that the server will balance off, but until then I will not be one of those whiner's. Sure this battle is tough and near impossible. We must all (Order of Iron Rock) ask ourselves this question...

Do you want to be known for whining to get your way, or do you want to be known as the group who defended with all their might even against impossible odds?

So to Order of Iron Rock, don't sit and whine. Better yourself and fight with all you have to defend our homelands and glory will be yours.

My server move from Red Eye Mountain to Iron Rock is complete and I must applaud Mythic. That was the easiest and simplest Character Move I have ever been through on any game. Congrats Mythic on keeping it simple and making everyone's life a bit easier. See you all on the Rock!

So while I am happy that my low pop server has been issued a move order it is also a sad moment. I feel like I have come to know those data packets I send and receive from the server. Each and every bit is family to me. Ok so that's pushing it, but I do feel a bit bad, but about 98% of my current guild and alliance will be all moving to Iron Rock. Well it is time for us to look forward to the future of Warhammer. So what do we have to look forward too?

The Night of Murder is ending and this Elf will join the crowd in showing off our new trophies and new titles. Soon after we will all be rushing around to unlock the Choppa and Slayer classes for an early week of play. In March this rush will begin, so for now we will all have to be content taking each others cities. Now if one is not content with this then here is one suggestion for all you Order our there. Go to your nearest RP sever and roll a dwarf, create yourself a little niche of friends and then find a reason to disgrace yourself while playing one day and then reroll as a Slayer once they go live. I will be doing this within the coming week and I'll post up my server and name if any wish to join me.

So sharpen thos blades and repair that armor, the Call to Arms is coming...

For the few readers I have I must apologize for my lack of posting. At first it was due to school eating away all my time along with my fiancee, but then the news about all these lay-offs hit and every time I tried to post it just seemed like a silly rant that I dare not put you all through. However, I just can't keep silent anymore while all my fellow bloggers are out there freely sharing their feelings and anger at all of this:

To begin, my first reaction to this was simply reading what MJ has posted and to simply believe this. How Mythic has treated me has never made me doubt what they tell me, stretched at times yes, but not to an extent as this. So I let it go and got back to life and soon forgot about it, but then more and more blogs and posts were popping up.

I can understand the need to lay off people in times such as this, things are rough for all of us. At the beginning of all of this economy crap I myself was fired from and IT job, granted it was an internship and only had a few months left anyway, but still it left me out on my butt for a bit. What I did see from this though was a smart way in cutting jobs. Only what was not truly needed to keep the business running was removed. This consisted of the peons such as myself and general spending for office parties, supplies etc.

So now on to Mythic, a company that I have wanted to work for since my days of in High School staying up till 3 am on DAOC(HIB ftw!). Now that dream will probably not come true. Such is life though, gaming and creating games are my passion and I will be happy working almost anywhere gaming wise. More importantly then a young, soon to be college grad, hopeing for a job is the men and women who have invested more then time and energy, but part of their very being to Mythic and are now no more then a memory. I can understand the need to cut higher-ups as they are most likely the ones responsible for failure, not that I declare WAR to be a failure, but we are humans and mistakes are made. The MMO market has changed this we all know and Mythic did well in claiming its piece on the market. "Post WoW" as most say(although I hate this term, it seems we forget about EQ and what it has done for the market back in the day). Important minds may make mistakes, but they would also be the most likely to help a company recover from slip-ups and make WAR better every day.

My final note on all of this is about the choice to call this a "standard post-launch layoff". Why lie to us? If times are rough then tell us openly and honestly. Mythic's success is based on all of us. We are the ones that loyally promoted this game even when some of us had only touched it for a few fleeting moments at a convention. We offered feedback openly and honestly and patiently waited for the fixes. So why lie? Why would you try to seperate yourself from the community. Mythic you are a great team and your community loves you and support you in all your endevours. So please be honest with us and if need be offer why you made your decisions. We cannot always understand these decisions unless we are given your open and honest reasons for that lead to your decision.

I wish luck to those who must move on and I wish luck to Mythic that they continue to grow and mature as a company and don't let mistakes repeat themselves.

Well, I am back. I took a break when Wotlk came out (I know feel free to flame me if you wish) to help my guild and max myself out. I just recently maxed out my engineering, mining, and am lvl 80. And with my guild currently raiding only 2 nights a week (10 man and 25 man) I have found time to return to Warhammer.

So what does this mean? The blog will be back in full force with daily updates, fresh polls, and maybe even some contests. So I hope to expand my reader base here soon so tell your friends themore the merrier.

Well it has been said over the past few weeks that Mark Jacobs had three top reasons why he was still keeping the NDA wall up. He has officially posted them on the Warhamer Alliance a few hours ago and well here they are...

Folks,

Over the last few weeks I've been saying that there were three reasons why I was waiting to lift our Beta. As the time till lift approaches rapidly, I thought I'd get this topic started. Here are the three reasons:

1) One of the key concerns about WAR after we announced the cuts of the cities and the classes was how RvR would play out with the current class configurations. What I've heard from our team is that the classes we have currently are playing out quite well in Beta and that while we expect to continue working on them over the next month and beyond, that we did not need to hold up the game's release to put back/add classes. Again, I'm not saying that the classes are perfect, working as intended (even though I don't use that phrase), totally balanced but they are where they need to be now. Over the next month we will continue to iterate on them based on feedback from the testers.

2) Over the development cycle of this game one of the criticisms we have gotten (and frankly earned) was that our UI, combat and overall game responsiveness felt a little off and sluggish. We have been working rather diligently on that and we were in the process of putting in what we called our Combat Responsiveness code. Simply point, this is a system that makes the UI, animations and combat feel more connected, faster and of course, more responsive. When we put it in, the feedback from our beta testers was overwhelmingly positive (98%+). I wanted to wait till it was in and tested before lifting the NDA as again, it was one of the absolutely fair criticisms of WAR in the past. We will, of course, continue to work on this over the remaining month, we are not finished yet.

3) The final reason was one that frankly, if not resolved, would have been enough to keep the NDA in place and one that could have derailed the launch of WAR. Over the long history of DAoC, while we have certainly made our fair share of mistakes, one of the things that Mythic is known for is having one of the most stable MMORPGs in the industry. Whether it was our launch or even our limited amount of downtime, we are proud of our ability to produce a stable MMORPG platform. Unfortunately, in the weeks leading up to this lift, we were having some stability and performance problems. While a lot of the problems could be traced to our testing of new areas as well as the additional testing load in those areas, the fact remains that we were having more server crashes, crash to desktops and RvR lag than we were used to having. While even under those conditions the game was more stable than many MMOs, that wasn't good enough for me. Over the last few weeks the team has worked hard on these issues and our CTDs are way, way down and our server crashes are back on a level that is consistent with Mythic's history with DAoC. Overall, we're not all the way there yet but we have every expectation that we will be there in plenty of time for launch. Even as late as yesterday we put up another version to the testers that improved server performance significantly. I think it is safe to say, and I expect our testers will echo this, that the game as it stands today is more stable than most MMOs were at launch.

So, those were the reasons. I hope you agree that they were more than important enough to hold up the release of the NDA.

They will mostly be of the Swordmaster I will be playing, but I will be trying as many classes as I can based on what the battle plan we have for this preview we will be getting.

Unfortunately for most this is causing more problems then being a "better solution" for torrents. I did have a few problems at first, but after a cleared data and restarting of my firefox browser and being patient my download started. To anyone out there still having problems my suggestion is be patient or try downloading Firefox as your browser from this link. I am 2 hours away from completing my download.

I am deeply disappointed lately by Mythic PR(public relations) department, and there censoring, or lack of, statements put out by developers etc.... From what I have read I should have been in beta a long time ago either closed or Open(I am a Collector's Edition holder). However the word "eligibility" has found a new place of hatred within, more so then "applied". Apparently Mythics views on being eligible are really hit or miss with most people who were left out have system specs that are slightly below or insanely above their minimum specs.

As far as Fileplanet is concerned. I for one rarely have problems with them, but from what I see it appears that a majority of people are having difficulties. I prefer torrenting as my primary download medium and I was a bit upset when they switched, but from their standpoint this is better. They do not have to host or worry about bandwidth issues and it is easier for them to get out to everyone from their standpoint.

Now the one issue that does upset me greatly is this deal with Open Beta(OB) starting Sept. 7th. This seems late to me. Now I do not mind a 1 week OB that is fine for me. However I feel it should be a week or week and a half before the Head start or the launch. Mainly for two reasons. It will allow people to try the game earlier and see what to play. Secondly, it will give Mythic the stress test they need and give their team a small much needed rest before the launch so they can get geared back release. This will also allow for fixes before release as well to fix either minor or major problems and bugs. However, Mythic has played the MMO game before and we know they will be great. So that being said let us just be patient as we wait for the game to launch.

Although however many times this PR stuff comes back to bite WAR's player base in the ass I will still trust in Mythic and my goal towards working as one of their team has not wavered and I am still excited to play this game.

...but come on Mythic drop that NDA already.... /please

Guild Highlights. Perhaps a few streaks of Blonde...

Okay, excuse the dumb joke in the title(if you can even call it a proper joke). Anyway the herald was updated today offering a first look at a new feature "Guild Highlights".

I can't see anything new to us WAR faithful, seems like that same information we have already heard a few thousand times, but I am liking the idea of seeing real guilds in the beta. It is nice however to see pictures of real guilds from in the game, even if it is just beta. For example the picture that is posted of Dusk Till Dawn. When I laid eyes on this image my first reaction was something like this.

"Wow this whole thing actually seems like an MMO and not just an idea in the internet somewhere".

I know that I should have felt this way a long time ago, but after all the delays and the recent news on the cuts have seemed to take the wind out of me a bit. Not that I am angry at either of those issues, I do understand their viewpoints and the decisions are made so theres not much I can do about it anyway except blog and I don;t want this to be a source for people to hear me ranting on about trivial things that I cannot change anyway.

It appears that it will be a standard setup from DAoC. Get a group of friends, pay some money to a register at a capital and get the invites flowing to your anxious members. While I never much liked the idea of having to give money to every blasted NPC I see to do things such as these one has to admit that getting everything for free isn't much fun in the long run.

I am really excited about this now am truly considering joining a guild before the game is released to get that guildie feeling in me once again and be able to hit the ground running once the game is officially done with beta and the real slaughter begins.

First Post!

So here I was sitting at work today bored to tears. I spent my time trolling the blogs and forums until it dawned on me. Why don't I put my spare time to good use and be a creator of one of these blogs. So I did and "Girly Elves" was born.

I will try to offer new insights to the game and everything about it in hopes in becoming an original blog site for this game. I will offer info and updates as readily as I can touch a computer, being they are my job it should be often.

So heres to the birth of a new blog. Now don't get to excited all of you I know a new blog being created is a huge event and can cause many to jump for joy, but just settle down and relax.
